Once upon a time, there was a dream.
Ok... that was slightly disturbing. *decreases dramaticism by a whole notch* Let's try this again.
Once upon a time, Amy discovered the Republic Commandos. (But that's another section.) And loved them. Like many things she loves, she eventually began to consider ways to express and share her thoughts, idea, and enthusiasm with other fans. Since 2000, making websites has been her primary way of doing this - she loves making sites, fiddling with graphics, and coding, so it makes sense. :) Thus she began to consider making a website centered around the clones and/or the commandos.
Amy's original idea was to make a 'fanlisting' for the commandos. Fanlistings are something she is intimately familiar with - being a staff member at thefanlistings.org and all - so the amusement of creating a website (= fun) about a subject she loves (= fun times 2) was not unknown to her. This was back in July 2005. She was all ready to go ahead with that, but then had a thought: why stop at a fanlisting? Amy knew she loved the commandos - and, in fact, all the clones - enough that she'd love to make a larger fansite centered around them. And no such site existed that she could find - she found a couple game-related websites, but nothing focusing on the clones as people.
In late August, Amy began brainstorming ideas for the site. One of the first things she wrote for the site was The Story of Amy and the Commandos, and writing that pretty much made the decision to create a site a done deal. It only became a matter of finding time to work on it. She was full of ideas of what the site would include. But even her enthusiasm was bounded by time, and she decided to focus the site on the Republic Commandos, specifically Delta Squad and Omega Squad. While she loves the entire Grand Army of the Republic - including the clone troopers, the ARCs, the Null ARCs - as well as related material like the Mandalorians, the Mandalorian language Mando'a, and the Fetts, she decided that the website should be focused so as to do a better job covering the material.
When it became clear that this website would be larger than any she'd created so far, Amy began thinking about getting a domain for the site. Domains aren't something she was lacking (and she even owns a Star Wars-themed one), and it would have been no problem to host the site as a section of one of her existing domains. But when her webhost Dreamhost suddenly changed to allowing unlimited domains in one hosting account, she decided that there was no reason to not get a domain for the site. She considered and debated domain names with herself for weeks, but eventually settled on clonecommandos.net. Simple, descriptive, and memorable.
Finally, on October 31, 2005, after countless hours of work (including many evenings of 5-6 hours of work straight (without noticing the time pass, of course - it was fun!)), the first version of the site was put online. At last there's a site for Republic Commando fans to look through and get information and media. Mission accomplished.
But it's not endex yet, as the world of the Republic Commandos is not unchanging. New things are happening and being released. Thus this website will constantly be updated, adding new and cool stuff of interest to all Republic Commando and clone fans.
This website is dedicated to Karen Traviss and all the people involved in the development of the game Republic Commando. Without you, life could not exist and we would have no knowledge of the Force... erm, I mean, the leetness of the Commandos. ;) Vor entye, ner vode.
